Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year!!! :)

December 2011 Connection

As one year comes to a close and a new one begins, may we challenge ourselves to evaluate how we are spending this short lifetime we have been given on this earth. May we commit each and every moment to the glory of God as we seek to live according to His will. No matter where we are at, may we not stop encouraging one another and building each other up in the Christ-proclaiming lives we are called to be living. May you continue to be blessed to be a blessing, filled to overflowing with the love, joy, peace, and grace of Jesus Christ.

Creating a Library Management software from scratch without the help of an experienced Librarian is not an easy task. What makes it so difficult is neither the programming challenges involved, nor the absence of Library Cataloging standards, but the fact that because each Library has a slightly different purpose and expertise, many times this forces the Librarians to bend the rules and come up with ways to make things easier for the visitors. While this is of course a good thing, not only does it translate into inconsistencies, but it also creates many exceptions when you try to standardize this as a process. However with the help of Meg and some other volunteers, we managed to pinpoint the majority of these exceptions, and most of them now are supported natively by the new software. On a different note, this past month I also had the opportunity to reconnect with a classmate from high school and with another ex-colleague, and they both showed interest in learning more about God. One of them even asked for a New Testament which I plan on giving him the next time we meet! It’s so encouraging to see God working both in and out of the College!

This past month was full of many opportunities to share my musical skills. I have been teaching piano lessons for four great young students, and I might be adding another few students in the new year. I taught a favorite worship song in chapel and shared another one that I wrote. A couple Sundays in a row, I was able to help lead the worship music in church. Pav & I went to a ministry “Christmas boat” celebration where our group shared Christmas treats, live music, and magic tricks with a Christian message as a platform to engage in conversation with passersby about the reason we celebrate Christ coming into this world!  I also joined in playing piano and singing some live music for the first time ever on a sailboat - slowly rocking back and forth, fingers frozen, nose dripping, while the pedal kept sliding further away from my foot, haha! A final highlight was participating in the Christmas musical our church put on one Saturday evening. The theme was, “If I had a voice, I would give glory to God!” The narration and songs focused on the non-human things present at the manger scene, and how they would praise the arrival of the Savior with their voices if they could, but since they can’t, may we who have a voice sing Glory to God!” There were many non-Christian visitors present, and we have been praying that the message pointed their hearts and minds to the Savior of the World, Christ Jesus our Lord! As for library news, 1,000 new books arrived, and I have been busy cataloguing away so that at least all of the new commentaries will be on the shelves ready for loaning once the new semester starts this January! Praise God for the generous donations that allowed us to have such valuable resources added to our library!

Please pray with us...
  • Thanking God for the arrival of excellent new books for the College Library!
  • Thanking God for the great message shared at our church Christmas musical
  • Thanking God for rest and time with family & friends over the holidays
  • That we will have patience with each other as we work together every day
  • That we continue growing in God’s Word while helping others do the same!
Pavlos and I bought a puzzle for Christmas. We were so excited that we worked on it for many hours and got this much put together on the first day of our break!
