Blessed to be a part of God at work
in the lives of young people as we served at camp.

August 2012 Connection

Connect with the teenagers at camp

How do you share Christ’s love with teenagers? How do you balance discipline with a fun attitude? How do you communicate with others about your experience of living in close quarters with a dozen youngsters half your age? All these questions are running through our heads as we reflect on our experience as camp counselors this past month. We’re still processing the experience!

The teens at camp came from a variety of backgrounds, several of them not from believing families, while many others had grown up learning all the Bible stories in Sunday school. This combination presented a challenge to the overall atmosphere at the camp, playing a continual tug of war between striving for spiritual growth for half the crowd or simply teaching the basics to the rest.

So is it good enough that the kids expressed at the end that they didn’t want to leave and they had such a good time? Many fun and interesting things happened. For example, Pav had the chance to lead a camp-wide discussion about facebook/internet usage, and Meg had the chance to teach softball, a “new sport” for almost every Greek! Good things. Were they enough?

Our overall conclusion is that the most important work starts now. We built some new relationships at camp while we were having a good time together and discussing “hot topics.” Will we take these newly formed relationships to the next step now, investing more long-term in the lives of one or two of these teens? Will we continue to faithfully share with them how Christ is at work in our lives, and we wish the same for them? Please pray with us that we will be faithful to this task of continually speaking truth into their lives, We’re thankful for the opportunity we had to meet them and enjoy special times together. May God continue to draw them near to Himself! Who knows, maybe one day we’ll get to walk alongside them again as students at the College!

If you live in these areas, we will do our best to contact you (and quite a few of you we already have!) about arranging to meet.

We will be asking your help to set up a chance to speak at your church, with your missions committee, or simply with a group of friends to share about the ministry of the Greek Bible College.  If you haven't heard from us yet but are interested in helping us out, please reply to this message and let us know!

We would greatly appreciate your prayers through this season, as it may look like fun to meet with so many people and visit so many places (which it is!), it can also be quite stressful, tiring, and overwhelming trying to meet all of the goals and expectations we set for ourselves. We also hope we can encourage young people interested in studying the Bible for either a semester or a year abroad to take advantage of what the Greek Bible College has to offer. :-)  If you have anyone in particular in mind, please let us know or invite them to contact us! :-)

  • Pray for all of the new students who will be joining us this fall at the college. We want to encourage them well from the start and urge them to grow as the year progresses!
  • This fall in the USA, pray that we will not be overly focused on man's ability to give of his time or money, but instead that our focus would truly be glorifying God and the work HE is doing and has called us and our whole support team to be a part of for the furtherance of the Kingdom.

To celebrate our anniversary (Aug. 21) and Meg's birthday (Aug. 30),
we visited two different breathtaking locations and got to see masterpieces painted in the sky by the Master Artist! We enjoyed watching these beautiful sunsets reflecting magnificent colors across the sea. "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork." Psalm 19:1
To cap off the summer, we spent a week at a different camp near Corinth with Pav's family. It was an encouraging time with about sixty other brothers and sisters in Christ crossing all generations. We were blessed by the intense biblical discussions amidst plenty of hours for rest and fun activities. It felt like a joyful family reunion, with everyone genuinely yearning to know God more.
