Celebrating a life well-lived
& Praying for the crisis in Greece

June 2012 Connection

What a blessing it was to have our family visit us for a week!
We love hosting visitors… will you be next? ;-)

As we promised in our last update, this time we will share with you a few developments in the political situation and the social climate here in Greece.
After the first round of elections on May 6th, the three leading parties failed to form a government, so a second round of elections was scheduled for June 17th. As the election day approached, the media focused on scaring the people by presenting this vote as a choice between staying in the European Union, or leaving it along with the euro currency. This would probably lead some other countries like Spain and Italy to do the same, in which case, the future of the European Union would look very bleak. At the same time though, there were several respected analysts who were presenting this not only as a viable option, but also as a necessary reformation. The truth is that neither of these two options would come without cost.
The results of the second elections put New Democracy (right wing party) in the lead, by receiving a mere 30% of the total vote. This forced them to form a coalition government with two other parties. While this politics game is being played, illegal immigrants keep coming in, unemployment is reaching new heights, crime has gone up, so some of the citizens have started taking the law into their own hands. This probably explains why Golden Dawn (a neo-Nazi party who denies the holocaust) managed to receive 7% of the vote, and ended up holding 18 seats in the Parliament!
We’ll see what the future holds, but most importantly, we know Who holds the future, and we need to reassure our neighbors of the same hope we have in Christ alone.
Connect with the Greek Bible College

This month, a friend of ours passed away:
The co-founder of our Bible College, Rev. Bill Baldwin.
He leaves us with a priceless heritage of sacrifices, hard work and dedication to the Lord he has served so faithfully for years. Originally from the USA, he came to Greece with his young family way back in the late 1960s.  His “mustard seed” of faith and perseverance left us with a deeply rooted tree from the fruit of which many are fed. He is an inspiration for us as new missionaries working for the Bible College to give sacrificially of our time and talents, and serve as though working for the Lord and not man.

The Memorial Service took place at the College campus in front of a large crowd of those whose lives were touched by the work of the Lord in Bill's life.  Pavlos had the privilege of video-streaming the service Live over the Internet. There were more than 200 viewers from at least 35 cities all over the world who had the opportunity to watch it as it was taking place. The ceremony is now posted on the Greek Bible College's new website (http://www.grbc.gr), where we also added English subtitles, so you are welcome to watch it as well.  It would give you a great taste of how the College is being used for God's glory in Greece.  It is so special to be a part of it, and YOU as our prayer and financial supporters play such an important role in serving the College as well as you continually encourage us.  Thank you so much!!

His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
- Matthew 25:23

  • Pray that we will seize the opportunities that come our way to serve our neighbors through the love of Christ, that God may use us to touch their lives with His amazing love for them.
  • Please pray that we will be patient and full of joy as we play a major role in helping host many visitors to our college campus this next month in addition to our regular library and computer work.
  • Look for a mailed update coming soon with a summary of our first full year of work at the Bible College and a look ahead for what's to come for us in the second half of 2012. (if you are not on our mailing list and would like to be, please contact us!)
  • Speaking of the rest of 2012, we also want to officially inform you that we will be spending a few months in the States this fall! Pray that we will already begin planning well for another season of support team building.
This weekend Meggan had the honor to play the piano and sing for the wedding of two dear friends, who will be living and continue their studies at the Greek Bible College this coming Fall.
May God bless and guide them in their new beginning!
"It is a great blessing for people to have the God of Jacob to help them.
They depend on the LORD their God. He made heaven and earth. He made the sea and everything in it.
He can be trusted to do what he says."  ~ Ps.146:5-6 ~
