Connecting in the USA
while enjoying the beauty of Fall

September - October 2012 Connection

Connect with Central Iowa

We have almost finished the first phase of our time in the USA, and what a joy it has been so far! After spending a few days of quality time with the family, including taking some fun fall family photos and attending Great Grandma’s 100th birthday party, we have also had some great opportunities to connect with churches, supporters, and potential study abroad students.
One particular highlight from our time so far was speaking with the youth at the STARS after-school program a couple of different nights. We taught them that animals in Greece actually speak a “different language” just like the people. Even more importantly, we had the chance to discuss what a missionary is and review the Gospel message. They made prayer chains to remember to pray for our church missionaries, and we gave them cards with their name written in Greek. We even got to sit in on craft time with the kids!

We have also been working a lot on scheduling details and updating our printed resources that explain who we are, the work God has given us to do at the Greek Bible College, and the financial situation in Greece.

Connect with New Students

Before we traveled to the States, we had the chance to meet all of the new students for this year. The week everyone arrived, we had a couple of pizza parties with get-to-know-you games and overall great fellowship. On average each year there are about 10-15 1st year Greek students, and 5-10 taking their 2nd or 3rd year of studies. Then there are normally about 10-15 English speaking students, for a total of 25-40 students. This year we’re on the low end of that average, but they are a really great bunch, and we’re excited for what God has in store for us as a community.

The last weekend in September we had our 3-day kick off retreat with the students, professors and staff. It’s one of our favorite parts of the whole year.  We listened to everyone share their testimonies of how God has worked in their life and led them to the Bible College for this season. This transparency with each other is such an important thing for building closer relationships, and at the same time it reminds us all of God's amazing grace for each individual, drawing them to Himself for His glory!!
Connect in the    Word & Prayer
«ὁ δὲ θεός μου πληρώσει πᾶσαν χρείαν ὑμῶν
κατὰ τὸ πλοῦτος αὐτοῦ ἐν δόξῃ ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ.»
- Φιλιππησίους 4:19
“And my God shall supply all your need
according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:19
  • Pray for safe travels and more strategic connections as we head out on our road trip East for the month of November. We will be recruiting for both students and new regular supporters.
Answers to prayer

We would like to take a moment to share some of our many answered prayers. Our flight travels went about the smoothest of any trans-Atlantic flights we have ever been on. Also, all of our time here so far has been a healthy balance of busywork and rest. We have been greatly encouraged by many strategic connections, and despite the stress of this season’s demands on our working relationship, God has blessed us with extra amounts of grace and patience with each other. Thank you so much for joining us in prayer!
Being in Iowa for the harvest reminded us of Jesus' urge to the disciples:
“The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray that the Lord of the harvest will send out laborers into His harvest.” Luke 10:2
We’re excited to have yet another representative from Meg's hometown area in the excellent Biblical study abroad program that our College offers. We're praying this year will be a blessing for her. Will someone you know be next?
