A Productive Summer!

July 2013 Connection

Thankful for a Productive Summer

The summer is already more than halfway over, and the two volunteer girls who have come to help Meg are just days away from going home. We are so incredibly thankful for the help they have been during their eight weeks here. They have helped sort through a storage room of a couple thousand donated books, barcoded our entire library of around 18,000 books, and used our nifty new scanners to link those books to their database records. All this could not have happened this summer without their help. We've also enjoyed getting to know them through quick trips to the beach after a long days work, life story chats while star-gazing, and deep conversations over coffee. It's so neat that the program Meg first came to Greece through now has her on the receiving end of short-term summer volunteers!

The rest of our summer is full of more activity, including welcoming, orienting and hosting a group of students from Moody Bible Institute. We will also get to spend time with Kat De Penning as she wraps up her year in Greece, and get to show her brother Nick around too as he visits to serve in a ministry project with her. We are also planning to have a bit of down time at a Christian family conference at the end of August before the work picks back up again in September.

Prison entrance. No cameras allowed inside.

One extra thing that we have the privilege of doing this summer is to go every Tuesday and worship together with a small group of mainly Nigerian... prisoners. Our friend Rudy has been visiting these men every week for about a year now. He shares a short message of encouragement from the Bible, Pav translates it in English, and Meg helps lead a few hymns. We have also been able to bring them some books from the library. We pray that more prisoners and even guards will come to know the amazing grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  • Pray for the political situation in Greece that is affecting not only the society here but also the College.
  • Pray for the students who are coming this Fall, and for the faculty & staff to be ready to serve them well.

Thank you so much for praying for us and supporting us in many ways. The Lord has blessed us greatly, and we are thankful for all of you who are standing behind us faithfully in the work the Lord has given us to do!

Our NWC volunteers checked another thing off of their bucket list for their time in Greece: hiking up Filopappou hill in downtown Athens for a great view
of the Acropolis.
