Happy Spring!

April 2014

With our parents: Brent & Sandy De Jong
Lots going on this spring season!

To kick off our enjoyment of the spring weather, we were able to welcome Meggan’s parents to Greece for their first visit since we’ve been married. One highlight was introducing them to the students and staff at the Greek Bible College. The other highlights were just the simple things of getting to live life together for a few days in our apartment, enjoying time with Pavlos’ family, showing them around the neighborhood, and making a few of our first purchases in preparation for baby’s arrival this summer! Thanks for coming and being such a joy and encouragement to us, Mom & Dad!

Speaking of simple things, “The Beauty of Simplicity” is the theme of the upcoming Christian women’s conference Meg will be attending this April. She will be playing piano and singing in Greek as part of the music team for the four main sessions. This will be her biggest musical challenge yet in Greece, so prayers are appreciated—for strength through the preparations and a humble heart of worship as she helps lead women in praising God.

The symbol of the cross is featured on the Greek flag,
however Greeks still need to hear the Gospel

Another event this April is our annual tour as a college. This year we’ll be visiting seven different churches throughout northern Greece. The main purpose of this trip is to expose our students to different church settings that could potentially use their help after they graduate. After all, this is our primary goal as a college— to raise up biblical leaders who can serve God’s church all across Greece. We look forward to updating you about how this year’s tour goes. Thank you once again for supporting us to serve the future leaders of churches in Greece and beyond.

«ἐμοὶ δὲ μὴ γένοιτο καυχᾶσθαι εἰ μὴ ἐν τῷ σταυρῷ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ,
δι’ οὗ ἐμοὶ κόσμος ἐσταύρωται κἀγὼ κόσμῳ.»
- Γαλάτας 6:14
"But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Prayer Praises & Requests
  • Pray for safety, good fellowship, and that God will be glorified through the women’s conference and college tour events we shared about in this update.
  • Please continue praying for our college’s building project. While the money needed to purchase the land was raised in good time, a new land purchasing tax law implemented this January was written so poorly that no buying or selling of land has happened in all of Greece for three months. The legal implications of the law are so unclear that attorneys are refusing to participate in signing any contracts. Needless to say, this is a stress and annoyance for our leadership, adding frustrating delays to important plans. Please pray for peace and patience, as God reminds us all to trust in Him. When all around us things are out of our control, they’re never beyond His control! May we continue to be faithful servants in whatever He calls us to, for His glory!
A few weeks ago, Dr. George Kalantzis (a Greek professor from Wheaton College, IL) taught a module on Christian Ethics. This topic is often misunderstood as just a list of principles on what to do, but it's about who we become in Christ.
Here we are with our parents
and Pav's brothers
in front of the Temple of Apollo.
Since our families don't get to meet often, we seized the opportunity to spend a day visiting Ancient Corinth together.
